Comprised of 17 stories written by survivors of conversion therapy (including CBRC’s SOGIECE/CP Prevention & Survivor Support Coordinator, Jordan Sullivan), and a foreword by Garrard Conley, Shame-Sex Attraction: Survivors’ Stories of Conversion Therapy reveals the wide-ranging diversity of sexuality and gender change efforts in Canada, the U.S., and Australia.
Though there are stories set in a Jewish Orthodox community in NYC and a Chinese cult in rural USA, the stories in the collection are predominantly set in white Christian fundamentalist and evangelical contexts (e.g., at the world’s largest evangelical college, Liberty University).
This collection gives voice to the range of experiences of conversion therapy and how this damaging practice wreaks havoc on the minds, hearts, and souls of those who are forced to endure it.
